Hi I'm Katie. I'm a Reiki Healer and Mindfulness Meditation instructor. I have enjoyed and felt the real benefits of meditation and mindfulness for over 10 years now. I am passionate about demystifying meditation and making it simple and accessible to all who want to experience more balance, calm and self-compassion.

As a parent, I have definitely felt a cultural shift over the last few years. The pace of life has drastically increased. I have also struggled like other mums with the pressure of this intense need for busyness and rushing around. But unfortunately, it is our health that suffers. Either our mental health or this will eventually show up in the body. We need to constantly remind ourselves that we are human beings not human doings! We all have the right to rest, be still, be aware…just be. Mindfulness can help you let go of the belief that you must be everything to everyone and do everything for everyone.

What is Mindfulness?

“Mindfulness is awareness, cultivated by paying attention in a sustained and particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment.” (Jon Kabat-Zinn, 2003)

It is a myth that meditation is all about clearing the mind of thoughts or if you’re having thoughts during meditation you are failing at it. It is essentially an act of stepping back and watching the mind, being aware of the thoughts, but not letting ourselves get completely swept up in them, and then gently bringing ourselves back to the present moment.

There is a plethora of research on the efficacy of mindfulness meditation. Cross disciplinary studies are examining the mechanisms by which the simple behaviour of focused attention with kindness will positively influence the feelings, cognition, neurology, and biology of the individual, leading to improvements in mental health, outlook, coping, and health.
