Benefits and Definitions of Different Holistic Treatments and Therapies

A woman on a massage table receiving a therapy

We proudly have an array of practitioners and holistic therapists who work out of The Beach Studio. We know that although many people have been seeking alternative therapies for years, it may also be all very new to others. Even if you’re not new to it, the amount of different kinds of therapies available can still be confusing!  If that’s the case for you, don’t worry, we absolutely understand that you might not know what all the treatments involve, so we’re going to give you a little run down of the definitions and benefits of different treatments and therapies offered here.

If you are suffering from physical pain or mental health struggles, then we will have a  treatment that is suitable for you. That being said, please always speak to your doctor before trying an alternative treatment.

Please note that these are only short explanations of the different therapies and they may have other benefits not listed, so if you need more information please call us on 01323 732024.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese Medicine. It uses sterilised needles which are then inserted into various areas of the body. There are two ways in which it may help. The  needles help promote the production of endorphins in the body which can help with pain relief. In Chinese traditions, it is said that the acupuncture focusses on energy points in the body and helps the flow of energy, to improve health and happiness. Traditional Chinese Medicine has existed for thousands of years and prioritises holistic care and healing of the body.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a holistic medicine system which treats the whole body. It was conceived in India, thousands of years ago and looks at creating balance between body, mind and soul to create wellbeing. Ayurveda looks at lifestyle, nutrition and supplements to help support good physical and mental health. It looks at an individual’s constitution and based on this, a balancing treatment plan is put into action.

Corrective Massage Therapy

Corrective massage is used to bring back balance in the body. Treatments are cater for the specific issues of the problem in question. The theory as a whole is that the massage will help soft tissue imbalances which can cause physical aches and pains.

Counselling

Counselling is a kind of ‘talking therapy’ which allows people to talk about their problems and feelings in an understanding and safe environment. Depending upon the kind of counselling, they may also receive guidance on where their problems stem from and/or how they can help themselves. Counselling can be very beneficial for anxiety or depression.

Food Sensitivity Testing

This is a non-invasive method that helps pinpoint which food sensitivities you may have. Food sensitivities can cause a variety of physical issues including IBS, acne, migraines, asthma and indigestion, so a Food sensitivity test is a wonderful way to get to the bottom of what may be causing issues for you.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative form of medicine which uses the principle ‘like cures like’. Backgrounds and symptoms are taken by the homeopath and when they have adequate information, they prescribe a homeopathic treatment. These treatments very rarely cause side effects and are very safe to use, even by children.

Hypnotherapy

This is a very calming and relaxing technique which allows a connection to the subconscious to help create positive emotional changes. If you have anxieties, want to lose weight or give up smoking, hypnotherapy can be especially helpful.

Kinesiology

Kinesiology is a holistic treatment that uses muscle testing to monitor the bio feedback system for the human body. It helps to discover where health imbalances in the body might stem from and then helps to correct those imbalances using massage, pressure points and crystals. Kinesiology can be used to treat muscle discomforts, stomach conditions, mental health issues, food intolerances, sleep issues and hormonal conditions.

Naturopathic Nutrition

In its very basic sense, Naturopathic Nutrition is a way of treating illnesses with good nutritional advice and guidance. Naturopathic nutrition can help with energy issues, losing weight, hormonal problems, and digestives problems (though this list is not exhaustive!).

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a way of working with the joints and muscles to find and treat aches and pains. The treatment includes a variety of facilitated movements and massage which will help to reduce pain, increase movement and improve the way you feel. Osteopathy can help with back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, arthritis, pelvic, hip and leg pain, sports injuries and general muscle pains.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a way of regaining manoeuvrability in the body, especially after injury or illness. Physiotherapists will provide guidance and advice, along with exercises and some hands on therapy to help restore mobility. A physiotherapist will help you to reduce pain and prevent further illness.

Reiki

Reiki is a form of energy healing. It can either be hands on or hands off and can even be done remotely. It involves a way of channelling healing energy for the greater good of the client and can help with all physical and mental ailments. It can also work well side by side other treatments, so can be a great support for other healing techniques.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a clothed form of bodywork which uses techniques such as pressing, kneading, massaging and stretching to help reduce stress and help you improve the way you feel. It can help with general muscle aches and pains, improve the digestive process  and help with things such as PMS, fatigue, back pain and headaches. Similar to acupuncture, Shiatsu is based on the idea that there are energy pathways in the body and that if they become out of balance, then we start to have physical or mental problems. Treatment works on unblocking these pathways.

Shamanic Healing

Shamanic healing also works with energy blockages and looks at a person as a whole being and part of the world as a whole. A shaman will help you come back in to the flow of life. Shamanic healing is especially useful in treating problems such as addiction, anxiety, low confidence, depression and grief.
